The Portola Valley Schools Endowment started in 1998 and galvanized into action at the 2000 Gala, has assets of $3.1 million. The Endowment provides a permanent source of funds by dispensing a portion of the asset earnings towards grants submitted by teachers, staff and the district. Grant applications are submitted twice annually (Fall & Spring) and are reviewed by the Endowment Grants Committee with input from the school board and the school administration. Since 2006 the Endowment has funded over $300,000 in grants. Endowment grant projects are reviewed on an annual basis to ensure results are aligned with expectations and in some cases pilot programs have been rolled out on a wider basis. The Endowment enables our teachers and district to experiment with ways to improve education in Portola Valley without sacrificing on going work and in challenging economic times the Endowment serves as a safety net for funding core needs.
